Frontiers Conference

Today, I had to get up at 3:15am. I was asked a month ago to work an event at the University of Pittsburgh for the President of the United States. He was coming to Carnegie Mellon, and it was rumored the President was going to stop at the University of Pittsburgh, as well.

When I got to the bus stop in Crafton (we were going to Leanne’s after work), I noticed that the busses are not going inbound to downtown until 5:00am, so I decided to drive into work. I got down to Oakland at 4:30-4:45. It was so dark. When I was walking down Forbes to the campus, the cathedral looked so dark and scary. There really weren’t any lights on at all around the cathedral. I was super paranoid.
As I was approaching the Starbucks by the William Pitt Union. I ran into Wendy. She and I worked the International Student event. She gave me a hug, and we walked to Alumni Hall together to see if maybe they would have coffee or breakfast for us. Well all they had was coffee. I reconnected with the Assistant Dean of Katz graduate school. He remembered me from my assignment at Katz. It was cool to be recognized.

Shortly after I arrived, Jason arrived we got the registration tables set up. I was going to work next to Stacy. She had the iPads. I had to check people in using the iPads. I had a lanyard on along with my security clearances. It said, White House “Frontier” conference on the lanyard. I was running on pure adrenaline. Drew brought me coffee and a breakfast sandwich from The Porch.

After checking exhibitors, and the guests into the building, I was done for the day. I didn’t expect to be done at 9am, but I was. I decided not to go into the office. I had a parking garage bill tallying up and I did block the whole day off to be at this event, so I just went home. I didn’t get to see the President, but I go to be a part of the event and that is all that matters. I did hear from Andrew later that day, that the President was rumored to be at Alumni Hall around 11:30am. Secret Service snuck him in through the back door, before he exited and drove down Fifth Ave, kinda cool.

When I got to my car, I was cold and my feet were wet from the rain. I decided to go to my parents. I missed my children and wanted to see my puppies. We took an hour nap together, and then I went to Leanne’s. Andrew was going to meet me there when he got off the bus. Dan was going to look at Drew’s car and see whey there was a noise happening when he was driving. I hung out with Leanne and Maci. We went to the store, and got stuff for dinner tonight, and played around in Aldi’s. When we got home, I helped her cut up the vegetables for dinner, and hung out with Maci. She is getting so big! I hate it.

In the evening, Drew got there and Dan looked at his car. Dan said he needed new brakes, pads, and rotors, so there goes more of our money this weekend. Money is just going everywhere these days. After they checked the car, we ate dinner and then it was back to Crafton. I am going back to Leanne and Dan’s on Monday, so Dan can change the brakes.
