Rite of Election

This morning, I got up around 7:00am. I got a shower and got ready to leave to go to my parents. I kissed Drew goodbye, and then I was out the door. When I got to my parent’s, I climbed in bed with my mom and my dogs. My dad was already awake. We hung out until was time to go to church.

When we got to the church, Daddy was so nervous, so a woman prayed over him. We sat in the front pew with the rest of the candidates and their sponsors. Father Jay gave a great sermon. Then we were presented to the congregation and had to stand up in front of the altar, and face the congregation to be presented. At Communion, Father Jay smiled at me, while he gave me communion. My mom said, he didn’t smile at anyone else. I thought it was hilarious. After Mass, when we were leaving Father J gave me a hug, and told me he would try to make it down to Oakland. I was like, “Oh okay, cool.” My mom thinks he has a crush on me.

After mass, we went home changed and got ready to go to Oakland. Drew came to my parents, he was going to Oakland with us. Since he was having car issues, we all took my parent’s car. Once we got to Oakland, we were all able to sit together at the Cathedral, then the ceremony got underway. First, it was the catechisms, then the Candidates, went up to the altar to get the Bishop, and be able to be elected into the catholic church, so this ceremony starts the process.

After the hour and a half long ceremony, we went to dinner. My mom and Drew went to Central, and my dad and I went to Olive Garden with his church group. While we were there, everyone was on their phones, and talking about places they want to go oversees where the apparitions happened. These people are treating the catholic faith, like a newfound celebrity, and it’s weird.

After dinner, a confirmation sponsor named Andrew, who works for a wealth management company sat down next to me and started asking me questions about myself. I started talking a lot about my husband, to make sure he knew I wasn’t interested and I knew his game. It seems these men, who have married themselves and have children don’t seem to care. They know that they well dressed, decent looking, and make really good money, so they think everyone is expendable, even their wives and women. It is annoying. I know his type. When my dad and I left, Andrew touched my arm and said, see you in four weeks. I was like, “Yeah okay.” I couldn’t wait to get home. My husband was at my parents waiting for me and I couldn’t wait to see him.

When I got back to my parents, I told Drew about Andrew, the sponsor, and the priest Father J. He didn’t like it. It made me kind of uncomfortable too. When we were on the way home, my check engine light came on, and Andrew was already having issues with his car. I was so annoyed with everything. I called Drew and told him. He was concerned, and I was too. We settled in for the evening and finished Harry Potter. I loved it! Then it was time for bed. We had such a long day.

I am so proud of my dad. He is the coolest dad a girl could ask for!
