Sociology Orientation

Today, it was the Sociology Orientation. This is the second one that I helped to organize. Melanie and I host the Orientation. I create the binders and the itineraries for the students, coordinate with speakers, etc. Yesterday, I ordered the pizza to be delivered at 11:30am today. There is so much that goes into this, and updating. I enjoy it.

After the overview of the department, speakers come in and out of the conference room to speak to our new grads; a member of cultural studies, a member of the hillman library, and the TA TF Mentor for the new grads.

After the orientation is over, they meet with Melanie, their adviser. After they meet with Melanie and decide what courses they are going to take, they meet with me in order to register and to answer any questions.

At the end of the day, I was exhausted. All went well for the most part, but I missed some e-mails and some requests. I was not in my office at all that day really. I am hoping next year I will be able to give Melanie a little break and host the orientation myself.
