Sick Days

Monday morning, I wrote an e-mail to my supervisor and the other admin that I work with and told them I was going to stay home sick. Andrew left work. I went back to sleep and around 9am I woke up and called my mom. She and Dad were going to pick me Wedding soup from Sarafinos in Crafton. This is my favorite place to eat wedding soup. When I lived at home, every time I was sick, I would get wedding soup from Sarafinos.
After I got out of the shower, I laid on the couch. I had to write my summaries for Student Development Theory class on Tuesday, but I didn’t want to, at least not right away. I watched the new episode of Victoria.

When my parents arrived, I got up and opened the door. I stepped aside so they could walk in the house. My dad had a McDonald’s bag with him. I was glad to see them. We sat down at the dining room table. I heated up my soup. Along with the soup, they also give you a chunk of bread and dipping oil. I hate half the bread and one bowl of soup. They brought me enough for two servings. I figured I would save the rest for later. We talked about school work, the interviews, what they were up to, and my cold. After lunch, my mom cleaned up and put my clean dishes away from the dishwasher and my dad took out the garbage. I was grateful they brought me soup and had lunch with me. When they left I went back to working on my summaries. I was able to get them done and submitted.

Before Drew came home, I got another shower and laid back on the couch. When he came home, I heated up some chicken casserole that we had last night for dinner. I heated up myself some soup. We ate dinner and he started to feel sick as well. I felt so bad that he was catching my cold.

Tuesday, I stayed home one more day. I was still so congested and not feeling 100%. I sent an e-mail again to my supervisor and the other admin I work with and told them that I was going to take one more sick day. I was still congested. Andrew left for work and I tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn’t fall back asleep, coughing and blowing my nose. I got a shower and laid on the couch. I watched TV and watched some movies. I e-mailed my professor and told him that I wasn’t going to be in class, and I wanted to use my one absence. I told him how my interviews went and he gave me some good advice. Drew stopped at Walmart on the way home. I got a shower before he came home, and put on some cut up kielbasa and sauerkraut in a pot for dinner. When he came home, he was not feeling well at all. We ate dinner and watched Siesta Key (my guilty pleasure).  Then off to bed. I was going to go to work in the morning. I couldn’t wait to feel better.

Sick with a Cold

Friday, after work I felt like I had a sore throat coming on. I thought I was getting a cold. My ears were starting to get a  little bothersome too (I had a few ear infections as a child. My ears are sensitive). We stayed in for the rest of the evening.

Saturday, I woke up, got a shower, got dressed and went to med express. I felt like my throat was on fire. When I arrived at Medexpress, they were a little busy. I had to wait about 40 mins until I was seen by the Doctor.  She said my throat is sore and that my ears have some fluid in them. She prescribed me a z pack and some gargle for my throat. I went home and laid on the couch. Drew picked up my prescription and I started my two pills of the Z pack. I did not move from the couch. I watched movies all day; Scream 1 and 2, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Mean Girls, and Dear John. Andrew did laundry and cleaned for me. In the evening, Drew turned on some documentary about a basketball team that was on Starz? I fell asleep during the documentary.

Sunday, I had to interview student-athletes at Pitt for my project for class, even though I was coming down with a cold. I didn’t want to miss my window to interview them. When we arrived I got set up in the conference room, and I interviewed them. The longest interview was about 15mins long. I interviewed 6 in total. I wanted to make sure I had enough information to write a paper on the themes of my interviews. I got home, and got a shower and laid down on the couch. I tried to watch Slenderman, while Drew did homework, but I kept dozing off and it wasn’t as good as I thought it was going to be. I am glad I didn’t pay to see it in theaters.

Disturbed Concert

Disturbed Concert

We got a good bit of snow the night before and it was still falling in the morning. In the morning the snow was coming down fast and laying thick. We tried to make it to work, but decided to turn around and go home. We were slipping and sliding. Drew worked from home and I hung out and did some homework and some laundry. I was flirting with the idea of not going to the concert tonight because the snow was going to turn into rain and I wasn’t sure if the roads were going to freeze. Stephanie still wanted to go. This was her night out.

In the evening, Stephanie drove to my house and parked her car. She came in and said hi to Drew then I called for an Uber. I kissed Drew goodbye and went outside to wait for the Uber. When the Uber arrived, we got in the backseat and we were on our way. On the way, we talked about the concert, our husbands, and etc. The uber dropped us off outside of PPG paints arena. I was so excited for this concert.

We got something to eat at Friday’s and it was packed with the concertgoers. Guys and Girls in black concert t-shirts, make up. We got a drink at the bar, while we waited for our table. At the bar, I had a Titos and soda water. Stephanie had a beer. We got seated shortly after we ordered our drinks.

For dinner, we ordered spinach dip as an appetizer. I was so hungry. We both ordered bacon cheeseburgers. I ordered mine without the bun and I nibbled on my fries. I am trying to watch my carbs. I feel better when I don’t eat a lot of carbs. I am trying to get back on keto, slowly but surely.

After dinner, we walked down to the arena. The doors were already open. We got in line and made our way to our seats. Once we saw where our seats were, we went and got a drink. I bought a truly, mixed berry. Stephanie got a beer. We made our way to our seats and waited for Three Days Grace to come on.

This was my second time seeing Three Days Grace. I thought I knew what to expect. I am not a fan of their new singer. I already was going into this with mixed feelings about this band. I do like their songs don’t get me wrong. It’s just that singer’s voice doesn’t make them sound hard at all.  The lead singer kept calling for people to mosh. I just felt like he was trying too hard. He tries way too hard to be rock!

However, I was looking forward to hearing infrared. This is their new song off their latest album. So far it is the only one I like.

After Three Days Grace, we went to the restroom, then got another drink. I bought another truly. Stephanie got another beer and we got ready for Disturbed! I was so excited to see them live, finally! I have been waiting to see them for so long.

Disturbed’s intro consisted of video clips and audio from when they first came out back in the late 90s early 2000s. They played clips of reporters trying to describe their style of music. I remember when they first  came out with “Down with the Sickness.” I was 14.  I liked that song when it came out.

The lead singer David Draiman came out on stage dressed in a trench coat. I loved it!

Of course, he can still make those crazy sounds with his voice as he does in the songs. He sounds just like he does on the radio. I knew most of their songs. I was 4 alcoholic seltzer waters deep by the end of the show. Stephanie had a good time, as well. We made plans to get a friendship tattoo and are excited for the next concert!

The Great Gatsby Ballet

The Great Gatsby Ballet

Drew and I met up with my friend Jenna from work, and her husband Mattaeo at the Speakeasy in the Omni William Penn Hotel. It was so cool. The atmosphere was dimly lit and it was red and gold decor. It definitely reminded me of prohibition. The drink menus were leatherbound and made to look secretive.

When Jenna and Mattaeo arrived, we placed our order. I had a mint julep. Andrew had a John Collins. Jenna had prosecco, and Mattaeo had soda water. They are not big drinkers. We chatted about the ballet and how excited were to see it. We talked about how Drew and I started dating and how Jenna and Mattaeo met and started dating. It was cute their love story. They met while she was studying aboard in Italy.

After drinks, we cashed out and got ready to make the walk to the Benedum. It was so cold outside, and we both were in dresses and heels.  I couldn’t wait for this ballet. Once inside we said our goodbyes to Jenna and Mattaeo they were sitting in a different section.

Once we found our seats, which were much better than the seats we had for the Nutcracker. The lights dimmed and the curtain opened. The ballet had it’s moments where it differenced from the novel and the movie. I was able to follow, but if you didn’t know the story of The Great Gatsby, but then I can see how one may have found it difficult to follow.

At intermission, we met up with Jenna and Mattaeo. Jenna was loving it, but Mattaeo wasn’t sure how he felt about it. We didn’t see them after the ballet was over, but I was going to see Jenna at work on Monday. I couldn’t wait to recap with her.

After the ballet was over, and we made it home I went straight to bed. I was so tired. It has been a weekend!

Personal Day

Today, I took a personal day. I needed some me time and time to get some homework done with this weekend with all that we have planned. I also had a couple errands to run. In the morning we went to breakfast at a French and American Cafe, Cafe Des Amis. I am Boujee (as you know) and I am a bit of snob, but Drew and I went to Paris and we went to England. We have been to great restaurants and not so great restaurants. The food at Cafe Des Amis is awesome, but the staff and service is a C- it can be so much better and should be so much better.

When you walk in, you got to the counter, place your order, pay for your meal and then seat yourself. You have to get your coffee yourself, it is self serve as well as the bottled water, and bottled drinks. I hate that. If I am going out to eat I want to be waited on. The least they did was bring you the food once it was ready.
IMG_0947.jpegI ordered the French toast and it was served on a baguette. It was amazing. The food was so good. Drew got a bacon and avocado omelet. I won’t hurry back to the restaurant at all, but the food was so good.

I don’t know what do you guys think of having to serve yourself pretty much at cafes? Does it bother you?

After breakfast, I went home and started to work on my homework and he went to his annual PCP appointment. I worked on homework until about 11:15am. Then I got ready to meet one of my old colleagues from the radio station where I used to work. He was hooking me up with lunch and Disturbed tickets. I was not hungry at all but he treated me to lunch. I had a small grilled chicken salad. It was good to catch up with him, so much has changed there since I left.

After lunch, I stopped to see my old boss from Fastest Labs, Chris and then I talked to Earl the maintenance man, who also does the maintenance for the radio station where I used to work. The buildings are in the same office complex.

After visiting with my old friends, I went to get my oil change then to the goodwill. At the goodwill, I snagged a blue Calvin Klein dress for $6 dollars and a top that had the tags on it still. The top was $58.00 and never worn. If that is not Boujee on a budget then I don’t know what is. I have become such a good goodwill shopper. I have always found a few things when I go.  I think I am going to wear a blue dress to the ballet tomorrow. I will be sure to post some pictures.

Also, I was able to set up my interviews for my project for Student Development Theory. All-in-all it was a nice and relaxing day.

Valentines Day

Valentines Day was a little different this year. I received my flowers on Sunday. Drew surprised me with a bouquet of pink roses. He knows I like any color rose, but red. I am not a red rose girl. I never have been. I am more of a pink roses girl, or any color rose, but red. IMG_0912.jpeg

On actual Valentines which was Thursday, I had class at night. However, we had plans over the weekend and my flowers came early.  🙂

I got Drew a valentines day card, as well. We were keeping it simple this year.

Great Gatsby Nails

I got my nails filled in Oakland on my lunch break. They were in such bad shape. I had an appt for Friday, but I already had so much planned, and homework that I didn’t want to wait. Drew was off on Friday, as well.

On my lunch break, I went to S & T nails in Oakland. I went for an Art Deco design on my ring finger, since we are going to The Great Gatsby ballet on Saturday. They look pretty good! I have been to that salon before.IMG_0953.jpg

After my nail appointment, I was 15 mins late coming back from lunch, but I made it up that day. I was stuck on the phone in my office until 5pm. I was so ready for Friday to get here!

After work, Drew texted me and asked if I could meet him in Hogwarts (the 1st floor of the Cathedral). He said, he had something to give me. 🙂 I love it when he surprises me.

When I arrived to the Cathedral, he handed me a Pitt University store shopping bag. I looked at him and said, “what is it?!” I took the bag from him and opened it. It was a great Gatsby tote!

I was so surprised. He knows The Great Gatsby is my favorite book! My absolute favorite book! He said, “I saw this and I thought of you. They only had one left. They also had a wristlet too, but I figured you would want the tote more.” I was so touched by it. It is the little things.

Also, today, is my parents 37 year marriage anniversary!
