Last Day at the Wave Pool

This morning, we went to the wave pool. It was going to probably be the last Saturday we could attend. Our schedules are jam packed when school starts. It was hot and humid out so it was the perfect pool day.

When we approached the pool, and walked along the green turf we noticed that half the pool was roped off. Drew said, “oh I bet they don’t have enough life guards. They all went back to school.” I said, “yea, they could have charged us half the price.” Image result for dashboard confessional so long sweet summerWe laid out on our towels, and lathered up with sunscreen. I laid in the water for a while. I felt like I was trapped in a Dashboard Confessional song. Specifically, the song that says, “So long sweet summer.”

Anyway, we stayed until about 2:30pm, then I had some things I needed to accomplish before I started at CMU on Monday. I was a bit nervous to start a new institution, but excited to see what the week was going to bring.

On Sunday, we organized the basement, and got some things put away in plastic bins and taken down to the garage, or thrown out. There is a good chance Drew is going to be working from home soon in the near future, and I already claimed the upstairs extra bedroom as my office. Also, it gave us a reason to go through the random things in the basement.

Clean, Organize, Laundry

Today, it wasn’t going to be as hot outside as it typically has been. We wanted to take advantage of a non-pool day and get the house thoroughly cleaned and organized. We started in the basement, and I went through some things that were just put down here. I made use of the shelves in the laundry room and reorganized them as well.

When we were done, it finally looks like a place we could entertain. We took some things down to the garage and had a few things to take to the garbage. I was proud of the results. All looks clean tidy. We need to work on the upstairs, next but that is a different day. I also got some laundry done. All in all, it was a good day.

For dinner, I made a hamburger casserole type of dish. It was okay. It is not the greatest dish, I ever made, but a quick and easy meal.

1st NFL Preseason Game

After work, I checked on the background check and it was complete. I was hoping to hear about an offer letter first thing on Monday, but I wanted to enjoy the weekend. We drove to Primanti’s again, we wanted to be among the crowd for the first NFL preseason game. When we arrived, the bar was backed and so was the restaurant area. We bumped into our neighbors, who lived next door to us. They moved towards Beaver county and now live by the Windmill where Andrew and I play haunted mini-golf around Halloween time.  They were so glad to see us. I gave them my new number, and we plan to hang out soon.

When we were seated, we ordered pizza like last time and had a drink. We celebrated the end of my background check and a forthcoming offer.  After dinner, we went home and watched a little of the preseason game. I painted my nails. I wasn’t all that interested in the game. I just wanted to wear black and gold for the Steelers!

Pool Day

The next morning, I woke up still bothered by the conversation and the events of last night. We got ready to go to the chiropractor. I didn’t bother showering. We were going to the pool after anyways. I put my swim suit on, a pair of beach pants, and a t-shirt. We went to Starbucks first, and for two cold brews. Then, we went to the Chiropractor. My hip was not in good shape, which I figured was the case. I could tell my gait when I walked was a little off. I haven’t been to the chiropractor in a while and I haven’t been good about stretching. I am trying to work out more now that it is summer. He wants to see me back next Saturday.

When we left the chiropractor, we stopped for breakfast at Eat n park. My hip was a big sore from him working on it. After breakfast, we were on our way to the pool. I left my phone at home, but I felt like I needed to send Leanne a message. I wrote her a message on Facebook  with Drew’s phone. She explained to me that she was kind of hurt, by me not updating her with my new number, and that I need to make time for my friends too. I shook my head a bit. I get where she is coming from, but at least we are cool.

When we got to the pool, Drew and I laid out and talked more about the drama her message. I was just having such a hard time with all of it. I try so hard. I really do. We stayed at the pool until about 2:30pm, then we wanted to stop at the Community Days that our townhome complex was having.

When we got home, I showered and changed. I put on some shorts and tank top and then we walked down to the cookout. The cookout was taking place in the parking lot outside of one of the board member’s house. He had a grill set up and some people from the community were sitting around chatting. We got to meet a few people who live in the other sections of our town home community. We played some corn hole and talked about the issues the board wants to fix.  It was nice. I hope they continue to do little things like this in the future.

I left the cookout around 5pm, I had to start reading for my online class that starts on Monday. I wasn’t sure if I had to post something in the discussion board by 5pm on Sunday or not, but I wanted to finish this book to stay ahead of the work. Drew came home around 6pm ish and said they moved the corn hole thing to the shade. He asked me if I needed more time to finish the book? I said, just a little and he said he was going to get a shower.

While he was in the shower, I finished the book and went upstairs where he was getting ready.  I said, “what should we do for dinner? Do you want to get out for a bit? It’s saturday night.” He said, “We can if you want to? We do need to go to Walmart.” I said, “okay, do you want to get Mexican? I am in the mood for tacos.” He said, “sure, we can do that.” We went to a local Mexican restaurant. It was empty! We tried Corona Premiere. it was pretty good and super light and low carb. I didn’t have the bloated full feeling.

After dinner, we went to Walmart, then home for the night. We were going to sit outside, but we ran into one of our board members, who was chatting with another board member. We thanked them for the cookout and said we had a good time. We talked to them for a little then went inside for the night.

This morning, I woke up and got a shower, I looked in the mirror and saw how red I was on my chest and arms, not so much on my face. I finally got that sun that I wanted to get so badly! Today, is Stephanie and Mike’s youngest son’s birthday, Stephen. I looked outside and thought today looks like a great pool day! We thought about going to the wave pool, but Drew said it was supposed to rain around 2:30pm (it ended up not even raining). It was probably a good thing we didn’t I needed to work on this market assessment evaluation for my adviser. I meet with her on Thursday and I need to have something to show her and I do have a few questions. I am finding that it is not as easy as I thought it was, or maybe I am thinking too much about it.

After we ate breakfast, so Drew could get ready to go to the  grocery store, I put in his work clothes. He was going to grill out tonight, but also wanted to go to the gym. While he was at the store, I started researching. He called me to check and see if we had olive oil, so I got up from my computer and checked. I said, “No, we need some.” Then, we got off the phone. I went back to researching and then he texted and said I am on my way home. I ignored his text and kept working on my project. When he came to the door with the groceries, he rang the door bell. I got up from my computer, and opened the door for him. He carried the groceries into the kitchen and set them on the counter. i asked if he wanted help? He said, “no I got it you go back to researching.” I said, “Your clothes are done in the washer. Do you want me to get them or are you going to hang them up after you put groceries away?” He said, “can you hang them up for me please?” I went down to the basement and hung them up. I put another load of clothes in the washer. He was on his hands and knees looking for a mixing bowl to marinate the steak and the chicken. I walked into the kitchen and saw him I said, “Why don’t you just go to the gym with me tomorrow and prep dinner, and help me around the house so I can get this project started on?” I felt like he was doing too much with little time.  He said, “Alright, I can do that.” I smiled and I helped him with the marinade and then went back to the project.

As I was working on the project, I was running into some road blocks and needed to ask her some questions on Thursday. Luckily, it is not due until end of August, and we are just collecting raw data. I took my computer outside, around 4pm when we started to grill and tried to research one more piece and then I put it aside for the night to enjoy my evening. I was able to get most of the laundry done and I assisted him clean up in the kitchen. Dinner was amazing! Steaks, asparagus, chicken (marinated on the grill). We made extra food for the week. I need to get back to eating low carb if not keto.

Goals of the week ahead:

  • Hopefully hear about an interview for the GSA position
  • Gym
  • Happy Hour with my music Friends on Tuesday
  • Meet with my adviser on Thursday to go over this project
  • Long weekend next weekend

This evening, we met Samuel for the first time. Samuel is Ben and Tricia’s second son. Ben and Tricia are our friends. Ben went to Grove City with Drew. Tricia is a sweet heart. Our men are so alike. Ben was in our wedding as a groomsmen.

Eventually, Drew got to hold Sam. TbffB%ZOS664M7er0LFlMwHe looks so good with a baby in his arms. It made my ovaries bounce with excitement. Seeing Drew hold Sam made me so excited for our future. He is going to be a great dad. Although he is nervous to hold other people’s children he looks like a natural and will be such a good dad one day.

Jackson is Ben and Tricia’s oldest. He is into his toys and his mom. He won’t sit with anyone other than Mom. He is so cute. Eventually I got a picture with Drew and the boys.

Guys Night

This morning, I went to the gym and worked out. I had to push myself to go. I wanted to hang out all day. It was the start of a long weekend and I was in no mood to go to the gym.

When I arrived to the gym, the treadmill section as packed which totally throw off my routine. I got on the elliptical, until the treadmill section emptied. I only stayed on the elliptical for 4 mins. I hopped off, and wiped the machine down and grabbed my things and approached an empty treadmill.

I was finishing up my High Intensity Interval training, when a woman came up next to me on my right hand side and made a face. It was my friend Erin! I was so happy to see her. She hopped on the gazelle machine that was next to me. I can’t tell you the last time I saw Erin. She told me that she is buying a house, her and her girlfriend have been together for 2 years, and that things are going well. I gave her my updated number and told her about graduate school and how busy that has kept me. She said, she understood she watched her sister go through it. We promised to get together for drinks and she wants to have Drew and I over when they move into their new home in November. 🙂

After talking with Erin, I did the strength training machines and then it was time for me to go home. I went home and started to organize the garage and get rid of somethings. We use our garage as storage unit, because neither one of our cars fit into the garage. I found some memorabilia of my high school years and even some things from CCAC (Community College of Allegheny County). Drew came home from the chiropractor, and helped me take things to the garbage. I took my memorabilia into the house, and set it in the basement.

Afterwards, I  got a shower, and then we got ready to go to Walmart. One would thing Walmart on Memorial Day weekend would be a mistake, but it actually wasn’t too packed. I had to pick up a veggie tray for Monday, we were going to his Aunt and Uncle’s for a cookout, and I needed to make macaroni salad for Ben and Tricia’s tomorrow. We were going over to meet Samuel, their youngest.

When we got home, we put our things away, and then left to go meet Drew’s friend TJ and John at Wings Suds and Spuds. When we arrived, TJ and John were on their way. At one point, in walked this guy who was tan, but not naturally tan, like sunless tanner type tan with a v-neck (I think it was grey), white ankle length sweat pants, white shoes, and for some reason he reminded me of Miami Vice. He had a brown beaded bracelet on and a flashy watch. When he smiled, his teeth looked so white and so bright, because he was tan. The hostess sat him at a table for 7. He kept looking back at me and Drew. I caught him a few times trying to make eye contact with me.

Finally, TJ and John walked in. We hugged and said, hi! Then the tan guy with the white ankle pants, approached us and said hi to TJ and John. TJ introduced the tan guy. His name is Jeff. Jeff introduced himself to Drew and I. Tan Jeff said he went to Rhema. Rhema is a christian school. Drew, John, and Tan Jeff apparently all went to Rhema together. It dawned on me then that Tan Jeff was a part of our table for 7.

At the table, we ordered drinks, wings, and fries.  At first, we talked about Waffles, Tommy and Megan’s dog (Tommy is Drew’s brother), who went missing, but was found. Tan Jeff was unfamiliar with the story. John asked me to tell Tan Jeff the story of Waffles. As I was telling the story, Tan Jeff looked as though he didn’t really care, but he listened anyway and at the end, said that is cool.

At one point, I was lost in the sea of guy talk; Drake is the new Spike Lee, Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger; will he stay or won’t he, and a little bit of Pitt sports. I just kept eating my wings and nodding my head.

After most of us were finished eating, Tan Jeff said his goodbyes, he was off to meet up with a girl.  TJ teased him and said, but I am not finished eating, and you are leaving. Tan Jeff said his fair-wells and was out the door.

When we all got up to leave, I said, goodbye to TJ and John. We walked outside to the car, Drew and I shared a laugh at the expense of Tan Jeff. We drove home and sat outside for a little while before heading to bed.

All-in-all I survived wing night with the guys.

Date Night

After work today, Drew left early with me at 3pm. We drove to Crafton. Traffic in the Southside was horrendous. It took us forever to get to my parents.

Once we arrived, I let the dogs out. They were so excited to see us. Then, we went back inside and I fed them. Then I went and got a shower and put on some relaxing clothes. I was getting to the point that I missed our house, our routine, and our bed. I am ready to go back home. I will miss the dogs though.

Once I was out of the shower, and Drew went up to change I fell asleep on the couch with the dogs. When he came downstairs, he said, “Are you ready to go to dinner?” We always go to this place called the Hop House, when we dog sit together. It is a hole in the wall bar and restaurant. I said, “Yes, I am.” He said,” are you sure? Or do you want to stay home?” I said, “No I want to get out a bit.” I let the dogs out one more time before we left.

When we arrived at the hop house, it wasn’t packed it was close to 5:30pm. We sat at the bar and I ordered a Coors Light it is has been a long time since I had a beer. Drew and I talked about the week and about work. We were both on the same page. We were both so tired and ready to go back to our house.

After dinner, we went back to my parents and let the dogs out and sat outside with them for a few minutes, before going back inside. We watched an episode of Downton Abbey. I am getting him ready for the movie in September!

Back to the Gym

This morning Drew woke up not feeling good. He said, his throat was sore. I thought oh great! He is getting sick. I felt bad for him. We parted ways once we got to Oakland. He was feeling off all day. We kept in touch via messenger.

At lunch, I went to the Greek Food Festival with Nancy and Wynn. Last year was my first year going with them. Last year, I waited in line last year for a gyro that took forever! I should have ordered ahead.  Wynn and I both wanted a gyro but were not going to wait in line for it. We went inside to the dining area and placed our order. I ordered a Greek Meatball, and one piece of spanikopita. I tried to maintain my willpower, but I broke down and bought a piece of the pasta flora for desert. I figured I was going to go to the gym tonight anyway.

Once we got our food, we went outside and took a seat at a table. We chatted and ate and talked about the latest things. Before we left Nancy, wanted to buy some Loukomades. They had some to sample. I asked her what they were. She said, “they have a sample try one.” I picked one up that was attached to the stick. I took a bite and said, “Oh my God that tastes so good.” She cracked up laughing. I didn’t buy any. I just wanted one.

When we got back to the office, the carb coma sent in early, but until next year!

After work, I met up with Drew and he looked miserable. I felt so bad for him. We didn’t say much on the way home. I asked if he wanted me to stay with him this evening. He said, no he is just going to go bed. When we got home, he went upstairs and went to bed. I asked him if he wanted me to wake him up when I got home? He said, “Yes.” I got ready to go to the gym.

When I arrived to the gym, I have to admit I was nervous. I was nervous to get back into the routine again. Thankfully it wasn’t too packed. I was able to get on treadmill and not be surrounded by others. I started out at 1.5 incline and 3.5 speed for 5 mins, then kicked up the speed to 4.1 for 2 mins, then ran for a minute at a 5.6 speed. I repeated this formula for 30 mins. I was sweating like a hog. It felt so good.

Once I was done on the treadmill, I did some strength training arms and hips and then I was done for the day. I went home to my sick husband.

When I went home, I got out of the car and saw my neighbor Amy. She invited Drew and I to her house on Saturday. She is having family and friends over for a cook out. I was grateful she offered. I asked her what time? and she said, around 1pm but probably won’t eat until about 4pm. I told her I did have to work at RMU’s commencement that morning, but I would be over after. I told her I am there just for the morning and to get it started, so I should be available, but Drew is sick he has a sore throat and is laid up, but if he can’t make it I still will attend for a bit. I asked her what I could bring and she said a dessert. I can’t go anywhere empty handed.

When I walked into the house, I went upstairs to my sick husband and kissed his forehead. He woke up and I said, “do you want some soup?” he whispered, “Yes.” I went downstairs and made soup, and put some chicken drumsticks in the oven. I felt so bad for him. He looked so sick. While he ate, I told him about Amy’s party on Saturday if he is up to it, but I am not sure we should have Mother’s Day dinner in case you aren’t feeling well. He agreed. After he ate, he went to go lay down. I sat on the couch, while he slept on the floor.

When the chicken was done, I put them on plate to cool down, and put the baking sheet in the sink to soak with hot water and soap. I ate a piece of chicken and walked into the living room and he opened his eyes and asked if the chicken was good? I laughed and said, ‘Yes, do you want some?” he nodded and smiled. I said, “do you want me to pull the meat off the bone for you?” he said, “yes, please.” I put some chicken in a bowl for him and gave him a fork. He ate almost two helpings. He perked up a little after. I cleaned up the kitchen and went upstairs to take a shower.

After my shower, I got changed into pjs and went back downstairs to kiss him on the forehead. I told him I was going to go lay down and I will see him when he comes up to bed.  I hope he feels better soon.

After the CLA I came home, and felt a pain in my left ear and my eyes were so itchy and watery. I was so exhausted. I felt like I was getting an ear infection and possibly getting sick. I wasn’t sure what was happening.

When I woke up this morning, it felt as if someone was stabbing the middle of my ear. I wrote an e-mail to Nancy and Phyllis and told them that I was taking a sick day to go to medexpress. I was having extreme ear pain and needed to go to medexpress. I knew it was poor timing because the Sociology Commencement was today. However, everything was done for it. The certificates were made, and things were complete. All someone had to do was hand out the certificates. I didn’t think it was going to be a major deal and no one plans to get sick.

At MedExpress they diagnosed me with an ear infection and an upper respiratory infection, as well as a sore throat. The doctor prescribed me Prednisone and a Z pack. I got both filled there instead of waiting at Giant Eagle. I was hesitant to take the prednisone because it will make me gain weight like crazy!

When I got home, I took the first dose and started my Z pack. I was hoping to fill better as soon as possible. I am on the go type person. I can’t just lay around I hate it. I called my mother in law and she says that I probably have just ran myself into the wall with how busy I have been. I did just finish up another semester of grad school (waiting for the grade from my one class), while doing an internship, and working full time. I have been so busy truly, but at the same time. I needed to take care of myself and I will admit I put self care on the back burner sometimes.

In the evening, Drew came home, and we spent the evening just relaxing. He felt bad that I was sick and had an ear infection. He made me soup and grilled cheese for dinner. He is always there for me.

Before we went to bed, I was watching Dirty Dancing and I had such a headache, but I wanted to wait and take Advil before I went to bed. I wasn’t sure when I was going to bed, so I didn’t take anything. Well the headache turned into a migraine, and it was the most intense migraine I ever had. Drew helped me upstairs and into the bathroom where I threw up everything in my body. I have never had migraine that bad.
