Family Birthday Party

Around 4pm, we arrived at the Haufbrauhaus for my Aunt’s 75th Birthday Party. I was nervous and excited to see everyone. There has been some drama with my family in the past, that makes me nervous when I am around them. There has been a lot of hurt and tension. Things are better, and more tolerable now. I think people are getting older and are finding things need to change for the better, but the quirks of their personality still remain and remind me of the drama that was once there.

Of course, I was nice to everyone and we had a good time. The beer flowed for my Aunt’s birthday, cake, and gifts. My cousin, Marilyn, and her husband paid for everything. I was surprised. It is good to see everyone.

At one point, my Uncle Tom was teasing us about having children. He said, we better get a move on. We are running out of time. I just smiled and said, “well we are enjoying taking care of each other right now.” He said, “I know, but the clock is ticking.” I said, “Well are you going to pay for them? Do you have money?” I know how to handle these questions and how to play it. Drew, on the other hand, was feeling some sort of way about the comments, and I hadn’t realized it.

After the party, we went home it was around 8pm by the time we left. I didn’t expect to be there that long. I kind of had an idea that we were going to be there a little late, but not that late.  When we got home, we changed and relaxed with some Smallville. Another Birthday party in the books.

Don’t get me wrong about my family. I am not bitter. I am just over it. I am ready to start a new chapter with my own family and decide who I want to continue a relationship with when it comes to my family. I love my cousins, but there is still some awkwardness and some of the personality quirks, that I just would rather not be around. I don’t have time for weirdness and prefer to avoid it, if possible.

Lisa’s Bridal Shower

On Saturday, we woke up early and got ready to go to the chiropractor. We had appointments for 9:30am. My adjustment went well and it felt so good. My neck was bothering me, from looking down and reading, but not anymore.
On our way home, we stopped and had breakfast at King’s. I am not too crazy about their food, but Drew likes it. I had the veggie scrambler with sourdough toast. Sourdough was the closest thing they had to Italian bread. Drew had a meat omelet.
When we got home, I tidied up the house, my mom was coming over around 12pm. She and I were going to hang out have some coffee and visit for a bit before we left to go to the bridal shower. Drew was packing up and getting ready to go to the gym, but work emailed him and told him the testing on the software needs to be done now, so he had to stay home and run some tests.
As I was getting ready my mom rang the doorbell, I ran downstairs to open the door for her. She came in, and I put on some coffee. Now that I don’t live at home anymore, I love seeing my mom. I miss her, my dad, and the dogs. We have a better relationship, now that I am out of the house. We had some coffee and Drew came in the house, since he had to run testing, he had to turn around come home.
While we were visiting, I told my mom about the show, the office. I showed her some clips. I said you have to sit down and start watching this series. I can’t believe I never watched this before. She thought the clips were hilarious and she was going to start watching it. I told her it is on Netflix. Drew laughs at almost everything in the show. I don’t. I mean somethings are hilariously funny, and others are just stupid, that is our sense of humor though.
When we left the house, I told my mom I would drive. She grabbed Lisa’s gift out of her car and put it in my car. I drove us to the shower. It was at Sewickley Hills park. I knew roughly where it was. I turned on my GPS just in case. Surprisingly, the whole way there my mom did not complain once about my driving.

When we arrived at the venue, I parked and changed into my leopard high heels. I haven’t work heels in so long, this was going to be interesting. When we walked into the party room, we set our gifts down at the table and then mingled with some people that we knew. We hugged and kissed the bride-to-be, Lisa. Then we went and got a drink. We took a seat at the table, with some friends of my mom’s. All of Celeste’s nieces are all grown up now. I saw so many people, that I remember seeing for years, but some definitely looked so much older, while others looked the same. Time is a funny thing. You just think people never age, when you are younger. They are always going to look the way you remember them for forever.

We watched Lisa open gifts, and she got everything that a bride would receive for her shower. Showers are not as fun when they are not your own, but Lisa looked so happy. My mom and I took a selfie together at the table. It is in the featured image over this blog. We had a great time, and I am glad I stayed the entire time. I was flirting with the idea of leaving early because I had to write a paper, but I am glad I didn’t leave early and stayed with my mom. When we arrived back to my house, Drew wasn’t home he was at the gym. He was due home shortly. My mom left to go back home. She and dad had plans that evening.

When I walked inside my house, I saw that the mail arrived. I opened the mail and noticed, that my bracelet came in the mail today, It is a bangle bracelet and it says, “Live the Story You Want to Tell.” I just love this message. on this bracelet. I think that it is a positive reminder to be a good person, and live the life that you would be proud to talk about. My friend Lindsay that I went to high school with, sells Paparazzi jewelry and this was my first purchase. I wasn’t sure what I was going to be buying, but the quality is awesome and the price is affordable. I will be on the lookout for other pieces to purchase in the future.

After stalling and googling over my bracelet, I walked into our office and started working on my paper. I was so anxious to get this thing over with and put it behind me. I have so much anxiety over it. I just want to do well in Grad School and I care so much.

After a while, Drew came home, and I figured I would just pretty much wear the same thing that I have on to go out to dinner with Drew’s friends, and their wives tonight. It was his buddy Mike’s birthday. We went to dinner at Azteca, a Mexican restaurant.

It was so good to see everyone. We haven’t seen Mike and Stephanie since Drew’s birthday party. I can’t tell you the last time I saw Kim and Denny. Well, I did see Denny when I was leaving Sewickley hospital, sick with the flu, but that doesn’t count. I do not remember the last time I saw Marj, Mike’s sister. The food at Azteca was good. Drew and I had a burrito. We ordered chips and guacamole. It was so good. I could make a meal out of just chips and guac.

After dinner, we went to Primanti’s and had drunk ducks. I can’t tell you the last time I had a drunk dunk. You could tell when we were at Primanti’s that we all were getting over being out and staying out late. We were all so tired. Mike was ready to get back to the house, and have us all over and drink there.

On our way to Mike’s, Drew and I stopped home. I put on some sweats, a t-shirt, and a hoodie with a pair of UGG boots. I was over the heels. I was pretty much in them all day. When we arrived at Mike and Stephanie’s, everyone was winding down some and getting sleepy. We did play this game called bad people, it is like Cards Against Humanity, but you are all given identities. Each person takes a turn fulfilling the role of the dictator. The dictator gives out the identity card to each player. The dictator reads the scenario and the players have to pick from the identities which one the dictator will choose. The dictator has silently chosen who he is going to pick when the dictator reveals his choice, whoever chose the same identity as the dictator gets a point. It is such a dirty, but a hilarious game. Drew and I stayed until 12am, then we went home. I had a long day and we didn’t have the energy to stay out all night.

Labor Day

We took our time getting ready. We had to go to my Uncle Tom’s 75th Birthday party. It was a surprise. The event invite said, “No Gifts.” However, we wanted to bring Karianne and Tommy a bottle of wine, since this was our first time at their place and to be nice. When we arrived at Tom and Karianne’s, we parked along their street. The house was huge. My parents said it is valued at over a million dollars. It really didn’t bother me. I just thought it was funny how my mom and dad were obsessing about the house.
When we walked up the driveway, my cousin Tom greeted us and we handed him the bottle of wine, he said, “You shouldn’t have done this. We have so much alcohol.” I thought to myself, just say Thank you. you ass. I said to him, “Well thank you for having us. Your house looks so beautiful.” He said, “Come on back.” We walked up the driveway, and to the backyard, which looked like a resort. There was a pool, a hot tub, a bar with a tv, and a shaded covered sitting area with another tv. Drew was like holy shit. We walked over to the bar and he offered us whatever we wanted. Drew and I opened the cooler and got two beers, but eventually, I switched to some Italian drink.
When people started arriving. Some of the people I haven’t seen since I was a child and we used to go over to Tom and Phyllis’ for Christmas Eve. It was a bit weird. They kept telling me that I was 9 years old playing barbies the last time they saw me. yeah, things have changed a bit. I kept sipping my drink. It really was cool to see everyone again. Uncle Tom was so surprised and happy to see everyone there.

Towards the end, Drew and I played basketball with Jack and Eli. I held Jack as a baby. He is now 15! Eli is so sweet. We were on the same team playing cornhole. My cousin Chris played with us too. He never played before. Eli and I won. It was fun.

We didn’t leave until about 7:30pm. We had work in the morning. I am glad everyone is getting along now in the family and we are tolerating each other again. It feels good.

Olivia & Izzy’s Birthday

Around 2:45pm, we arrived at Olivia and Izzy’s Birthday Party. The party was being held at my cousin Amanda’s house. We have been there once before. Last time we were there the backyard was torn up, and they were installing a french drain. The backyard is a back yard again. They had a bouncy house for the children. It was cool. It is nice to see my family all under one roof again and tolerating each other. It warms my heart a little.

At one point it started to rain, so everyone came inside. The house was crawling with children it was like daycare. There were snacks, veggies, and dip. Dinner was chicken nuggets for the kids, a chicken dish, and veggies for adults.

I love seeing my little cousins. I snap chatted with Olivia who is obsessed with the puppy dog face. It was cute. The children all wanted me to Snapchat with them and put the filters on for them. It made them happy. After the party was over, we went home and just relaxed and watched Entourage in the quiet of our house.
