McDonough Dress Rehearsal

Today, I took off work to go to RMU. The students were going to practice their presentation in front of an audience of student affairs professionals and my previous English professor. I was finally able to wear my blue Calvin Klein business professional dress.

When I arrived at RMU, I got a coffee first before going to the Student Life office. I had to print out the handouts for the presentation. I printed out 20 just in case. I was so excited to see my previous English professor. She and I have kept in touch via e-mail over the years.

Finally, I walked into the classroom where we were having the rehearsal and some of the students were there already setting up the room and getting it ready for the presentation. I was proud of them. I gave them the handouts I printed and waited for everyone to show up. John showed up first and he greeted me. I could tell that he was ready for this presentation and excited for the students.

A few moments later, Dr. Pamboukian, previous English professor, showed up and we hugged. I haven’t seen her in so long. We sat next to each other and chatted before the presentation. Before the presentation got underway, John made an announcement and introduced me.

I felt the students did a good job. They still have a little bit of practicing to do and they need to slow down some, but other than that. I am proud of them. They did a great job. After the presentation, the audience gave the students some valued feedback and things to think about before the actual presentation day, which is Friday.

After everyone left, John and I met briefly with the students to go over what time to meet on Friday and how things are going to go on the day of the conference. I am ready to get out of Pittsburgh for a while and delete my work e-mail off my phone for a couple days. I need a break.

When I arrived back home, I changed and met my parents for lunch at Armstrong’s. While I waited for my parents to arrive, I worked on some notecards for the presentation that evening. I am working with this girl Haley. She and I are competing against two other students, who are also presenting on the same topic. The winner automatically gets an A, with no rubric. The loser gets a rubric and slightly lower grade, if not an A-.

After lunch, I went home again and got packed up to go to Pitt to meet up with Haley. When I arrived on campus, I met Haley at the Career Center and we worked on the presentation until it was time to go to class.

When we arrived in class, I took out my computer and checked my e-mail. We were like the 5th group to present. I was ready to get up there and get it over with.

Finally, it was our turn, Haley and I were first. We presented and I think it went really well. The judges had some questions for us, but I think other than that we were good. The next group went up and presented. I personally didn’t think theirs was as good as ours and they ran over the time limit.

After all the presentations were done, the judges decided the winner for each topic. Haley and I did not win. I was a bit bummed. We also received feedback on our themes paper. I agreed with most of the things he said, but I still got an A- so I am okay with it.

After class, I met up with Drew I told him that we didn’t win, but I think we did well. He said, I am sorry, that sucks. I smiled and shrugged.  We drove home and then when I got home, I heated up my lunch from earlier and split it with Drew.

After dinner, I got a shower and then we got ready to watch the season finale of Siesta Key. It was so good. I am ready for another Season!

Traveling Back to the States

Traveling Back to the States

This morning we got up early, got dressed, ate our last hotel breakfast in England, then back to the room to make sure we had everything packed up. I did not want to leave at all. This was the best trip ever! We had an 8-hour flight ahead of us back to the states. Once again, another layover in Philly. I was so bummed, so was Drew.
When we arrived at the airport, we got checked in and went through security, and decided to check out the shops in the airport. I was checking out Harrod’s. They had two stores one that was just clothes, and high-end designers. The other was their name and accessories.  I forgot to go to Harrod’s when we were in London, but it was nice to go there now, even though we were at the Airport. Drew realized he forgot his Fitbit in security, he went over and gave them his information, and said they would page him if they found it.
Then we checked out Harrod’s accessories in their brand. Drew bought me a super cute tote bag. He surprises me sometimes. We got coffee from Starbucks and picked up a London mug. It was from the Starbucks anywhere collection. Then it was time to head to our gate. It was soon time to board the flight. We got on the plane, got settled in our seats. As we circled the runway, I said goodbye to England. I was so upset. I had to hold it together though.

When the plan was in the air, the flight attendants eventually came around with the beverage cart. We ordered our drinks. I had two vodka tonics, and Drew had two whiskeys over ice. Dinner was yummy, it was a roast, potatoes, and veggies. It was hard to be sad about heading home when you had such good service.
At one point, I finished the last episode of the Miniaturist that was uploaded on to the televisions. I can’t believe what happened and how the guy died, but his wife will be just fine I know it! I was hoping to catch more episodes at home, our Firestick. I also wanted to check for GoggleBox, as well. I am already missing English television.

After the miniaturist, I watched I, Tonya.  It was pretty good, better than I thought it was going to be. I was surprised. Margot Robbie did a good job. I do feel a little bad for Tonya Harding, so crazy though! I do remember that controversy and what happened to Nancy Kerrigan. I was young, but it was a big story.  After the movie, I read some more of Hemingway. I couldn’t sleep. I was running on adrenaline.

When we arrived in Philly, it was 3:00pm. We were in desperate need of a beer. We were drained from our flight. Drew said, the first bar we find. We found this one bar, (I forget the name) everything is a touch screen. We took a seat, ordered our first American beer.  I chose a Summer Shandy. We ordered some cheese fries to hold us over until we got home. The fries were so salty and the beer made me feel so bloated. Ugh, I already miss the food and the beer over in England, it had no preservatives and just made fresh and so good.

After our beer, we made our way to the gate and waited to board the flight to Pittsburgh. I couldn’t believe it we were in the states. Once we landed in Pittsburgh, my mom met us at the baggage claim area. Once I saw her I gave her the biggest hug. I did miss my mom and I know she was glad we were home safe and sound. She helped us with our luggage and my dad pulled up the curb and gave us both a hug. He loaded up his car with our luggage. They had so many questions for us about our trip and wanted to hear all about it.

When we arrived at our house, we brought our stuff into the house and then we ordered pizza. They wanted to hear all about our trip. We gave them their gifts. We bought my mom a little plate with Harry and Megan’s picture on it from the Royal Wedding. We bought my dad a shirt with Union Jack on it. He requested one. We showed them the gifts we bought for ourselves and they were so happy we had such a good time.
After the pizza arrived, we sat down and told them more about our trip, but we were ready for bed. I couldn’t wait to just lay in our bed and go to sleep.

Not Feeling Well

This morning I woke up with a scratchy throat. I texted my barre instructor and apologized for my absence at the studio today. She told me to take care of and feel better. I told her I would see her Wednesday if all was well. I just wanted to go back to bed, but I was up. I got a shower, and put some laundry in the washer. Drew made eggs for breakfast and I ate a little bit, but I wasn’t really all that hungry. I laid on the couch and watched Howard’s End. I have two more episodes to catch up on.
Drew went to the grocery store, came back, and I helped him unload the groceries and put them away. Then he went to the gym. I had no energy to even go work out.  I should, but I didn’t. I went back to sleep on the couch, until 3pm. I got up and finished the rest of the laundry.
When Drew came home, I cooked dinner. We had some fish, so it was easy to just throw it in the oven for 20 mins on 375 degrees. Drew cooked the broccoli. We had dinner around 5pm. It was a waste of a day for me. I was hormonal too. I needed to just go to bed and try again tomorrow. I didn’t have a sore throat anymore which was good.
After dinner, we watched Game Night with Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams. It was so funny. Some parts were funnier than others, but it was cute. After the movie, I went upstairs and got ready for bed. It was Sunday night and I am always restless on Sunday evenings. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Sunday

This morning I got up at 8:30am, got showered, and ready to go to Barre class at my instructor’s dance studio in Ambridge. We were to be there at 9:30am. When I arrived it was 9:15am, I sat in the car out front of the studio. 9:15am turned into 9:45am, and still, she wasn’t there. I just decided to head back home. I was bummed. I was looking forward to going to barre.
When I arrived back home, I got changed and kissed Drew. He was going to the gym, and I didn’t feel like working out if it wasn’t going to be barre class. I went to my parents to see my dogs.
When I arrived at my parents, I brushed Paris and Louie’s teeth. Then we got ready to go to breakfast. We went to Hanlon’s Cafe. For some reason, I was so hungry. I ordered the Handful; 2 pancakes, eggs, and hash browns.  I ate most of it. My parents and I sat around and drank a few more cups of coffee before it was time to go back home.
When we arrived back home, I kissed my dogs and got my keys. I said, goodbye to my parents and then I got in the car and drove home. I thought Drew was going to be there when I arrived home, but he wasn’t. He was still at the gym. I got changed again, and put another load of wash in the washer, and watched another episode of the Handmaid’s Tale.
When Drew came home, we kissed and brought up the towels that were in the dryer. I fell asleep on the couch, while he watched hockey. I was in and out of sleep. When I woke up from my nap, I checked my phone and I received an e-mail from my professor, the one who teaches Research Methodology. In the e-mail. she said that she is going to record my grade as a B. I saw that and was so happy. I told Drew about my grade and he was so proud of me. I was so satisfied with my first semester of grad school.
When I woke up, we made dinner. It was another night of fish, but it was so yummy. Drew finds all these different flavors. We are on a fish kick. After dinner, we watched Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. We didn’t get to finish the episode during the week. We got too tired. There was another episode on after this, but we were getting sleepy, so we called it quits after we finished the first episode.

Date Night

Finally, Friday arrived, and it was much cooler outside. Autumn is vastly approaching.  I am excited for fall leaves, cooler weather, haunted house, pumpkins, etc. I didn’t think it was going to be this cool outside, so I didn’t bother to wear a jacket, but I had long sleeves. It was the Friday before Labor Day weekend, which meant a long weekend!

At lunch, I went to the Hillman library to pick up a book I had ordered it, it’s titled Tulip Fever. The movie is coming out today, but until there is a stream up on our Firestick, I will read the book.  After I left the Hillman, I went to the Carnegie Library with Nicollete. My stomach was off ever since I had a macchiato this morning, so I just sat with her in the library while she had coffee. When she left to go back to the office, I browsed the books a bit. I asked if I could be put on the list for the Outlander series books 3 and 4 Voyager & Drums of Autumn. I read them before, but then I got away from the series, but I want to finish it and try to refresh my memory. The new season is starting on Sunday! I can’t wait!
Unfortunately, we didn’t get out early at all for the Holiday weekend. It was a long day! That evening, Drew and I went to the Industry Pub for dinner. We had a coupon for a free appetizer, so we got the huge soft pretzel. I tried this new beer called Trick or Treat. It was a Vanilla porter beer, so good, but so filling. At dinner, we talked about Grad school, parenting, family planning, no subjects were off the table.
When we left dinner, I was a little buzzed, but when we got home we ran into our neighbor Anita, who bitched about the same things as she always does. It ruined my buzz. Once we finally got into the house, we tried to find a good stream for Annabelle and there wasn’t any. I was so bummed. I wanted to see this so badly. We watched Unforgettable with Katherine Heigl and Rosario Dawson. It was like Fatal Attraction, but it was a good Thriller. Then it was off to bed.
