The day after Christmas Day we celebrated with my parents. We opened gifts. I got my Dad a gift card to the movies. My mom got some pieces to her Winterberry collection. I was anxious to see what we got from my parents. I think I already knew what I was getting, but Drew knew for sure we were getting the Nintendo Switch. I had asked for it for Christmas. Drew and I can’t stop playing it when we go to Best Buy.
It was our turn to open gifts, Drew got some beer glasses for his man cave. The glasses have his name on it. My parents gifted us with a Nintendo Switch, the Mariokart game, and a Paris calendar for our kitchen. We both received a little bit of money from them as well. I was so thankful and so happy. We couldn’t wait to go home and play Mariokart.
When I was younger, my dad and I used to play Super Nintendo. I am not a gamer, but I remember playing that console for hours. The graphics have come such a long way since the 90s. It looks so real now.
As the day went on, I started to feel a little sick in my stomach, but I was going to pull through it was Christmas. I wasn’t as bad as Drew, but there was something going around, plus we were eating all this different food.
At dinner, Drew and I prepped the food, and served my parents. It was nice and relaxing to finally be able to celebrate Christmas with my parents.
This morning, I had hair appt then we were going to see the Nutcracker. I was so excited to go. I love the Nutcracker ballet. When I was younger, my mom took me to see it a couple times. She never really was into the ballet, but I thought it was so magical. When I was younger, I took dance classes. I always took ballet. I tried tap, jazz, and gymnastics, but ballet was my thing. When Drew and I were dating, we went to see the Nutcracker with our moms, but this was the second time seeing it together, but first time by ourselves as a married couple.
The evening started out at dinner at Ten Penny. Drew made reservations and everything. I was so happy. We had a both chose the steak and I had a couple glasses of wine. We talked about how things are slowing down, and we were ready for winter break. We talked about school and our accomplishments and what we want to accomplish in the future it was nice. I couldn’t wait for the ballet.
After dinner, we walked to the Benedum hand-in-hand. It felt like old times, like we were dating again. It was nice. Once inside the Benedum, we got our tickets at will call and then made our way to the wine. In order to take your wine, or your alcoholic drink of choice in to the theater you have to buy a Cultural trust cup that comes with a lid and a straw. You have to keep the lid on and the straw in the cup in order to enjoy your drink during the performance.
After we got our drinks, Drew bought some sugar-coated almonds and he also bought me a Christmas ornament, ballet slippers. I was so happy. We made our way downstairs to use the restroom before the performance. A sugarplum fairy along with a photographer was placed cattycorner from where the restrooms are located. You could get your picture taken with her. Drew paid for me to get my picture with the sugarplum fairy. I was surprised. He is so thoughtful.
After my picture with the Sugarplum fairy, we made our way to our seats in the theater. We had pretty decent seats, orchestra center. The ballet began and it was magical. I was so glad he was there with me. So many times, have I been to the ballet and have seen women with their significant others, and I wondered what that would be like, having your significant other actually want to be there with you and I have to admit it was a good feeling. I am a lucky and blessed woman.
This Christmas Eve we wanted to be alone with each other. We typically would go to my parents’ friend’s house for dinner, but we wanted to try something different this year. We did go to 4 o’clock mass with my parents. Everyone shows up at church on Christmas and on Easter. Thankfully we got there early and were able to get a seat. Some people were standing along the walls. I love Christmas Eve mass.
After church, my parents went home to get ready to go to their friend’s. We went home, and changed into comfortable PJs I started dinner. I made haluski, and kielbasa. It was my first time making haluski so I was a bit nervous. Then we sat down at the dinner table. The haluski turned out amazing. I can’t wait to make it again.
After dinner, we cleaned the kitchen together and watched It’s a Wonderful Life, which is a Christmas Eve tradition for me. It is weird, how something that it didn’t mean to become a tradition, just happens. My Christmas Eve would be incomplete without it. Of course, I cried at the end. I loved this Christmas Eve and I can’t wait to celebrate many more with Andrew.
