Advising Apointment

I am presently sitting in the coffee shop of the U Club. I am prepping for my advising appointment. I have never been in this coffee shop before, but it is cute. It is called Brioche Doree. They have a little Eiffel Tower on the top of the pastry counter. It’s a cute quaint little coffee shop. It is not a cafe in Paris though. 😦 I am sipping a caramel latte waiting for my advisor to show. Our appointment is at 9am. She and I met before at orientation and I see her all the time in the building where my office is, but I am nervous for some reason.

There is so much going on at work and we are prepping for a new academic year. I am having trouble crossing tasks off my list, and now I am a prepping to start back to school on the fall. thus will be the second semester of my first year in Graduate School. I know that there is a lot of work ahead of me, but I am just trying to embrace it and love each moment of it. 2 more weeks and I will be back in the classroom again. Working full time, and attending graduate school part time. The reward will be sweet.

Traveling Back to the States

This morning we got up early, got dressed, ate our last hotel breakfast in England, then back to the room to make sure we had everything packed up. I did not want to leave at all. This was the best trip ever! We had an 8 hour flight head of us back to the states. Once again, another lay over in Philly. I was so bummed, so was Drew.
When we arrived to the airport, we got checked in and went through security, and decided to check out the shops in the airport. I was checking out Harrod’s. They had two stores one that was just clothes, and high end designers. The other was their name and accessories.  I forgot to go to Harrod’s when we were in London, but it was nice to go there now, even though we were in the Airport. Drew realized he forgot his Fitbit in security, he went over and gave them his information, and said they would page him if they found it.
Then we checked out Harrod’s accessories in their brand. Drew bought me a super cute tote bag. He surprises me sometimes.

We got coffee from Starbucks, and picked up a London mug. It was from the Starbucks anywhere collection. Then it was time to head to our gate. It was soon time to board the flight. We got on the plane, got settled in our seats. As we circled the run way, I said goodbye to England. I was so upset. I had to hold it together though.

When the plan was in the air, the flight attendants eventually came around with the beverage cart. We ordered our drinks. I had two vodka tonics, and Drew had two whiskeys over ice. Dinner was yummy, it was a roast, potatoes, and veggies. It was hard to be sad about heading home, when you had such good service.
At one point, I finished the last episode of the Miniaturist that was uploaded on to the televisions. I can’t believe what happened and how the guy died, but his wife will be just fine I know it! I was hoping to catch more episodes at home, our Firestick. I also wanted to check for GoggleBox, as well. I am already missing English television.

After the miniaturist, I watched I, Tonya.  It was pretty good, better than I thought it was going to be. I was surprised. Margot Robbie did a good job. I do feel a little bad for Tonya Harding, so crazy though! I do remember that controversy and what happened to Nancy Kerrigan. I was young, but it was a big story.  After the movie, I read some more of Hemingway. I couldn’t sleep. I was running on adrenaline.

When we arrived in Philly, it was 3:00pm. We were in desperate need of a beer. We were drained from our flight. Drew said, the first bar we find. We found this one bar, (I forget the name) everything is touch screen. We took a seat, ordered our first american beer.  I chose a Summer Shandy. We ordered some cheese fries to hold us over until we got home. The fries were so salty and the beer made me feel so bloated. Ugh, I already miss the food and the beer over in England, it had no preservatives and just made fresh and so good.

After our beer, we made our way to the gate and waited to board the flight to Pittsburgh. I couldn’t believe it we were in the states. Once we landed in Pittsburgh, my mom met us at the baggage claim area. Once I saw her I gave her the biggest hug. I did miss my mom and I know she was glad we were home safe and sound. She helped us with our luggage and my dad pulled up the curb and gave us both a hug. He loaded up his car with our luggage. They had so many questions for us about our trip and wanted to hear all about it.

When we arrived at our house, we brought our stuff into the house and then we ordered pizza. They wanted to hear all about our trip. We gave them their gifts. We bought my mom a little plate with Harry and Megan’s picture on it from the Royal Wedding. We bought my dad a shirt with Union jack on it. He requested one. We showed them the gifts we bought for ourselves and they were so happy we had such a good time.
After the pizza arrived, we sat down and told them more about our trip, but we were ready for bed. I couldn’t wait to just lay in our bed and go to sleep.

Paris, France

This morning we woke up, got showered, got dressed, and then went downstairs to eat the hotel breakfast again. This time we had double espresso. It was so yummy and the little cup is so cute.
After breakfast, we went to our hotel room gathered up our luggage, and went downstairs to the desk to check out, then we got a taxi to take us to St. Pancras, where we had to catch a train to Paris. I was so excited. The Euro Star station, was so huge. It had a bunch of stores in it, including a Chanel store. Drew gave me some notes to get coffee to distract me from the Chanel store. 🙂 I bought my first coffee with a British note.

When the train operator made the announcement that we were in Paris, I instantly freaked out! I was so excited. Right before we arrived to the station, I kept looking around for the Eiffel Tower, and I think I may have caught sight of it for just a moment. I can’t wait to see it! Once we arrived in Gare Du Nord, we followed the signs for taxis. All around us, we could hear the French language. I was in heaven. I was loving it. I heard “Salut, Ca’va, Monsieur?” I saw French police patrolling the station. On our way to the taxi area, a woman approached us and asked if we were looking for a taxi? I said, Yes. She told us to follow her, but we decided against it. It seemed shady. We walked outside and followed the line for the taxis, so apparently there was a demonstration (protest) happening, which was causing all the taxis to be late.
Once we finally got a taxi, it was around 3:30pm-4:00pm Paris time. We were so ready to get to our Airbnb, but so happy to be in Paris. On the taxi ride, I took some pictures out  of the window, we were finally in Paris, my dream city:

Once we arrived at our Airbnb, I took a picture of the outside of it. Our Airbnb was located in the 9th Arrondissement of Paris. You need a code to get inside the red doors.
Then go past the mailboxes, where you enter another set of codes. No automatic alt text available. Now you are in the lobby of the building, there is a tenant office, a staircase, and a small elevator, that looks like you could only fit one person in it. Drew took the stairs, with two suitcases. I got into the elevator, and I stacked one suitcase on top of the others, so the door would close, automatically. Then I pushed the second floor. Once, I got to the second floor, the doors opened, right in front of me was the door to our Airbnb. Drew came up the stairs at that point with the two suitcases. We used a card key to open the door. You put the card up to the door and turn the door knob to the right then the door, unlocks. You have to do all motions simultaneously for it to work.

Once inside, it looked just like the pictures. We put our suitcases in the bed room, and then we both go showered and got dressed in clean clothes to explore Paris and have dinner at a cafe, and sit outside like Parisians. We stopped at this place called, Cafe Marguerite.

First Night in ParisNow is the time to try out my French. When the waiter came by, I said “Bonjour Monsieur.” he said, “Bonjour.” He handed us our menus. I looked at the menu. It was most certainly in French. My eyes widened a bit. I only had French 1 and 2 in high school. I ordered a glass of Rosé, so I said, “Une Rosé, sil vou pliat.” and smiled. I was really trying here. Drew said, the name of the beer he wanted, and said Sil Vou Plait. I gave him a crash course of French basics, as much as I could before we arrived, plus he heard me speak French here and there.
When it came time to order our dinner. When the waiter came back over, I broke down. I said, “We are Americans. I am trying.” He said, “No problem. I will get you the English menu.” He took our French menus away, and brought back English ones. I sighed. I felt disappointed and bummed. It took the fun out of it for me a little. Drew tried to reassure me that I am doing well. I sneered. I wanted so badly to be good at this and perhaps wanted them to think I was Parisian. It mattered a little to me.
When the waiter came back with the English menus, I have to admit it was easier, but definitely less fun trying to deceiver what everything was. He gave a us a few minutes. I was going to try the chicken and spinach thing with potatoes.

Drew at first ordered a burger, and the waiter said, “How American of you.” he had a little smile, but not really. We both laughed at the awkwardness. He said, “Okay, what do you suggest?” He said, “Chicken Cordon Bleu.” He said, “alright I will do that. I said to Drew, “You have had it before, however it is not like back home where it comes out of a freezer.” He said, “True.” Dinner was amazing. We had another drink, then thought about going some place else, or calling it a night because we didn’t want to be out and about after dark. We had a day of exploring Paris tomorrow.

When we arrived back at our Airbnb, we got ready to go to bed. The only down fall about our Airbnb is that it did not have air conditioning. It was so hot. We slept with the balcony doors open. We weren’t sure if Eric (the guy that owns our airbnb) was going to come back or not, or if he was gone for the summer and rented his place out, while he was away, but we were never sure if he was going to show up or not. It was 80 degrees while we were in Paris.

Mother’s Day

This morning, my mom came and picked me up around 10:15am. We were running behind, but such is life. We stopped at Dunkin. I bought us coffee and 2 egg muffins. Then we were on our way to Bella Nail’s. I was going to treat her to a manicure, and I desperately needed a pedicure. I was excited to spend the day with her.
When we arrived at the nail salon, there was no one there. I was surprised it being Mother’s Day. They were able to take us right away. Alan, the owner’s husband did my mom’s manicure, and Amy the owner, did my pedicure. I was so relaxed. My feet really needed some TLC. I decided on a gel french for my toes for vacation in a little less than a week away! I had a manicure scheduled for next Saturday at 1pm. I was going to get a gel french then too as well. I am so excited for my trip to England and France.
When we left the nail salon, we went back to my parents. I was able to see my pups again for a bit, then it was off to Drew’s parents. I was going to meet him at his mom and dad’s. He had to go pick up Aunt Tootsie and bring her to his parents for dinner. His uncle Steve and Aunt Maryann were attending dinner as well.
When we arrived at his parents, Aunt Tootsie and Drew just arrived as well. I was happy to see Drew. He said my toes looked pretty. We greeted everyone and then Steve and MaryAnn arrived. Shortly after, it was time to sit down and eat. We had hamburgers and hot dogs once again, along with sausages and macaroni salad. It was all so yummy. For desert we had Aunt Tootsie’s lemon cake, and apple pie. I had a few Stella Artois’ I wasn’t driving.
After dinner, we all sat around and chatted. Then we got up and got ready to go visit Grandma in the nursing home. Andrew’s mom left ahead of us, she wanted to stop at Giant Eagle and pick up some flowers for her. I couldn’t wait to see Grandma. It has been awhile since we were able to visit her.
When we arrived at the nursing home, we kissed her and gave her hug. We wished her happy Mother’s Day. She was sitting up eating some of the topping of the lemon cake that we all had for desert. This woman is a fighter, so strong. We stayed and visited for an hour or two, then said goodbye. We probably won’t be able to see her again, until we get back from England.
When we arrived home, I put some laundry in the washer, got a shower, and then put some pjs on. We then went started rolling up some loose change into some wrappers. I think counting and wrapping change is relaxing. We watched movies on TV, and then it was time for bed around 10pm. I put the towels in the dryer. Tomorrow was Monday.

Manicure

This morning I woke up around 9:30am. I had a manicure appointment in Crafton with Leanne. She asked if I wanted to come at 11:00am instead. It won’t take her long to finish up, her one customer. I got showered, got dressed, and texted Anthony back and forth about last night.
On my way to Crafton, I stopped at Starbucks and got an iced coffee with cream, shot of espresso, and whole wheat bagel with fat free cream cheese. I drove to Crafton, and then stopped at Dunkin Donuts for Leanne. She wanted a medium thin mint iced coffee with cream and sugar. I try to treat her every so often.
When I arrived to the nail salon, everyone was there. I set Leanne’s coffee down at her desk. I went back to the back and toasted my bagel. Nikki was there and she talked to me about how she went to Seven recently, and it was sort of fun, but it was weird crowd, and how it isn’t the same anymore. I told her about my night last night and how it just was an off night. Nikki and I used to go out all the time, and we had off nights here and there too.
After I was finished with my bagel, Leanne started on my nails. I had taken off my acrylics, so I just needed a manicure to make the nails stronger again. She didn’t seem all that upset. I told her that Drew and I spent so much money on attractions for our England and France trip. We probably spent close to a $1,000. I didn’t ask him for certain yet what the amount was, but I bet it was close.
After my manicure, I went tanning. I set the bed for 20 mins. I already had a base from when I went on Thursday. I fell asleep in the bed. When I woke up, I had two minutes left in the bed. I just figured I would get up and get dressed. I was ready to head home. When I got dressed, I cleaned the bed. Leanne said she would be in touch about my next appointment. I am shooting for the 19th of May. I want to get a mani before England. I was already getting a pedicure next Sunday for Mother’s Day with my mom.
When I arrived home, Drew was home vacuuming and cleaning the house up a bit. I set my stuff down and kissed him. I went upstairs and got a shower since I went tanning. I changed into grey pants and Pittsburgh Penguins shirt. We were playing tonight. I wanted to show some team spirit.
That evening, we went to South Hills Village mall. I had a 6:00pm appointment at the Apple store with a genius. I needed to get my screen replaced. It was completely shattered from last night. When I arrived, they got me checked in and then took my phone. They said, that I could come back around 7:25 to pick it up, painless. We went to Red Robin the mall, and I had a cheeseburger and fries (I haven’t really been a vegetarian lately). I also had two tall glasses of Coors Light. I was so relaxed. We watched the start of the Penguins game. At a commercial, we cashed out and went back to the Apple Store to pick up my phone. It was ready! It looked like a brand new phone. They encouraged me to get a case for it. I agreed. The cases I like tend to break easily. I don’t have much luck.
We decided to stop at the Verizon store, and pick out a case. There was no one in there. It was empty! They had only 3 people working. The guy who wanted on us, showed us where the cases are located and he said, “Of course we have the Kate Spade case. I said, “Perfect.” I picked out the one I wanted and it was Kate Spade. It has pink glitter on it and a grey stripe, “Sold.” The guy at the Apple store said, my Apple Care expires in October and we are unable to renew it. Typically people just upgrade by then. We asked Verizon if we were eligible to upgrade soon and he said, yes, we have 5 more payments on IPhone 7. Then we can upgrade, so I will be due for one in October. Typically Apple releases a new phone every September. Drew and I are thinking of Upgrading for a Christmas present. The holidays will be limited due to trying to catch up on our finances after England.
When we got home, I got changed and then laid down on the couch with Drew and we watched the rest of the Penguin’s game.  I fell asleep here and there throughout the game. I was tired. After the game, I got up and went upstairs to go to bed. I was having second thoughts about barre in the morning.

Sunday

This morning I got up at 8:30am, got showered, and ready to go to Barre class at my instructor’s dance studio in Ambridge. We were to be there at 9:30am. When I arrived it was 9:15am, I sat in the car out front of the studio. 9:15am turned into 9:45am, and still she wasn’t there. I just decided to head back home. I was bummed. I was looking forward to going to barre.
When I arrived back home, I got changed, and kissed Drew. He was going to the gym, and I didn’t feel like working out, if it wasn’t going to be barre class. I went to my parents to see my dogs.
When I arrived at my parents, I brushed Paris and Louie’s teeth. Then we got ready to go to breakfast. We went to Hanlon’s Cafe. For some reason, I was so hungry. I ordered the Handful; 2 pancakes, eggs, and hash browns.  I ate most of it. My parents and I sat around and drank a few more cups of coffee, before it was time to go back home.
When we arrived back home, I kissed my dogs and got my keys. I said, goodbye to my parents and then I got in the car and drove home. I thought Drew was going to be there, when I arrived home, but he wasn’t. He was still at the gym. I got changed again, and put another load of wash in the washer, and watched another episode of the Handmaid’s Tale.
When Drew came home, we kissed and brought up the towels that were in the dryer. I fell asleep on the couch, while he watched hockey. I was in and out of sleep. When I woke up from my nap, I checked my phone and I received an e-mail from my professor, the one who teaches Research methodology. In the e-mail. she said that she is going to record my grade as a B. I saw that and was so happy. I told Drew about my grade and he was so proud of me. I was so satisfied with my first semester of grad school.
When I woke up, we made dinner. It was another night of fish, but it was so yummy. Drew finds all these different flavors. We are on a fish kick. After dinner, we watched Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. We didn’t get to finish the episode during the week. We got too tired. There was another episode on after this, but we were getting sleepy, so we called it quits after we finished the first episode.

Nails & Date Night

This morning, I got up and had some coffee. I know I had to work on this paper, but I needed coffee first. After I got caffeinated, I went and got a shower, and then attempted to write my paper. I have only a paragraph. Drew went to the chiropractor, then he was going to get ready to go to the pinball tournament with his friends.
Around 12:30pm, I left to go get my nails done. Leanne texted me and asked me if I could come earlier, so I drove to Starbucks. I needed espresso. I can’t do without it anymore.
When I arrived to the salon, I said hi to everyone and took a seat in Leanne’s chair. My nails were lifting all over the place. I couldn’t wait to get them done. I had her round them some and when she finished they looked amazing! I chose light pink, instead of a design. I had one last week. My nails took an hour. Her mom told me that she got new bulbs in 2 of her beds. She told me to hop in and try them out. I was apprehensive. She said, 10 mins. I was excited actually, but I was nervous.
When I got in the tanning bed, it felt like old times. I was so ready to feel the warmth! I laid down and pulled down the lid. I thought I would forget how to do this, but not so much. I did take a nap. I feel asleep, and when the bed shut off, I woke up. I got out, got dressed, and then cleaned the bed. I painted my toes to match my nails, let them dry under the dryer, and then stopped at my parents.
When I arrived at my parents, I picked up the things they bought for me; pepper spray, and an eyebrow liner pencil. It is called miracle brow. It is universal and blends to any color eye brow you are! I love it. It has easily replaced my Chanel eyebrow liner. My mom and I are baffled how it works.
When I arrived home, Drew was home he gave me a hug and a kiss. His pinball tournament got cancelled, so he said they were going to go to the movies, but he wanted to spend the evening with me. I was glad. He went to the gym, while I was out and about. He got a shower, and I got changed for dinner. We were going to the same Mexican restaurant that we went to for Mike’s birthday, plaza Azteca.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we got seated right away in a cute little booth.  We ordered Corona Lights and Guacamole to start off. Then I ordered two mushroom quesadillas. Drew had the burrito deluxe. It was a nice date.
