Balancing Commitments

This week I was extremely busy. I might have taken on much more than I can balance. I academically assist with the baseball players at Pitt. I have been doing it now for a year. I enjoy helping them with academic coaching, tutoring, and some administrative tasks. I helped my supervisor conduct grade check-ins. I told him I would try to meet with as many of the guys that I could. I only needed to meet with them for 20-mins to go over their grades, and enter them into a spreadsheet. I think we are going to do this a couple times a semester. I think the next time would be after midterm grades are submitted. On top of the 20-minute grade check-ins, I was academic coaching them, and tutoring them.
There were some times throughout the week, where I would be behind in getting in touch with them, but they were accommodating and willing to give me 20-mins of their time. I scheduled my last grade check-in in the evening on Thursday. I was planning to submit what I had to my supervisor on Friday.
Also, I admittedly did not really put that much energy into the 2-3-page reflection that I had to write for class next Wednesday. I needed to make sure I could still get my homework done, and help the baseball players as well. I am perhaps maybe being a bit too hard on myself, but I could have done a better job at balancing my commitments this week, but it was almost the weekend and I am determined to make some time for myself this weekend.

Clean, Organize, Laundry

Today, it wasn’t going to be as hot outside as it typically has been. We wanted to take advantage of a non-pool day and get the house thoroughly cleaned and organized. We started in the basement, and I went through some things that were just put down here. I made use of the shelves in the laundry room and reorganized them as well.

When we were done, it finally looks like a place we could entertain. We took some things down to the garage and had a few things to take to the garbage. I was proud of the results. All looks clean tidy. We need to work on the upstairs, next but that is a different day. I also got some laundry done. All in all, it was a good day.

For dinner, I made a hamburger casserole type of dish. It was okay. It is not the greatest dish, I ever made, but a quick and easy meal.

Restful Weekend

This morning, I stayed back, while Drew went to the Chiropractor. I watched the Handmaid’s Tale. Season 2 started this past week. I am hoping it is going to be a good season. I got up and got ready for Drew to come home. When he got back, we were going to go to Eat n Park for breakfast, and then to Beaver Valley to see about my ring.

When we arrived at Eat n’ Park, we ate breakfast. He had an omelette and I had a breakfast sandwich. I only ate half of it, and took the other half with us. After we left Eat n Park, we made our way to Beaver Valley Mall. I was excited to hear about my grandma’s wedding ring. I wasn’t sure what the jeweler was going to say about it.
When we arrived at the mall, we typically would walk in through Macy’s, but Macy’s is closed, along with mostly everything else in that mall. It is sad. I don’t see it lasting much longer. When we walked into King’s Jewelry, Mike was happy to see us. We talked about new things in life, before getting down to jewelry.
After I gave him my grandma’s ring, he told me that it is definitely platinum, it doesn’t need to be mounted, and is in good shape for how old it is. He sized my finger. We asked how much it would cost to get it sized? He said, for a normal couple $100.00, but for you guys, 83.00. I said, “okay, well we are going to have to wait until we get back from England.” I thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to pay for this now, and Drew agreed. Mike and a few of his co-workers talked to us about England, and asked us about our trip. Meanwhile, my rings were being soaked in the cleaner. They were so dirty.
When we finally left the jewelry store, and I had my rings back on my finger. We went to Bath and Body works and I got some soaps and scent things for my house. Drew was going to the gym and do some grocery shopping. I was going to go home and do some cleaning and organizing, as well as some laundry. It feels weird not to have homework to do.
When we arrived at home, Drew got the bin of summer and warmer weather clothes from the garage, and I started to put away some of the thick sweaters. I am always early to get this done, but it supposed to get warmer soon, and I want to be ready, and I know I am not going to be wearing some of this stuff anymore, due to the weather getting warmer, so lets just get it put away, before it is more to do later.
When Drew came back from the gym, and the grocery store. We made fish for dinner. It was nice to have a nice cooked meal. Tonight, we watched the Office and relaxed. It was a nice day.

No Work

This morning, I woke up at around 9:00am. I had coffee and we watched some tv, then I got showered, and got ready to go to my nail appointment.  I was excited to see Leanne. When I arrived at the nail salon, I saw Dan, who was just leaving. He was there to drop some things off for her.  Dan saw me and said, he was on the way to the hospital, they are going to do a biopsy on his dad. I wished him the best and walked into the salon.

When I walked in, I saw Maci and she walked right up to me. I was surprised to see her there, and not in school. I picked her up and hugged her tight. I miss her and how little she used to be. When I set her down, she told me she has a sore throat. I thought great. Nikki was there she was washing hair, and helping Kathie on the other side of the salon. Nikki and I are still friends, but it has been a long time since our club days.
When I took a seat at Leanne’s desk, she started on my nails. She told me how hard it has been for Dan and at home. She tries to get him to talk to her, but he just stays quiet and cries every so often. Maci being home sick. They can’t catch a break. I feel bad for them. I wish I could do more to help, but I figured getting my nails done helps. She put an acrylic overlay on my natural nails.
After I got my nails done, I was on my way home. Once I got home, I did some more elaborating on my paper and I was finished. I needed someone to look it over and see what more I could say if it was organized correctly and if my punctuation was on point. Ugh, I just want this paper to be turned in already.
When Drew came home, we took the fall and Christmas decorations out to the garage that was in the basement.  We were having a new washer being delivered tomorrow and I wanted to get some things out of the basement anyway. I hate clutter. We cleaned up the washer area and moved some basket of clothes into the basement. We haven’t been able to do laundry so it is piling up.
In the evening, I made dinner, and we watched The Office. We are on Season 3 now. I love this show. Before we went to bed, Drew and I had to move the sectional couch so they would be able to bring the washer in and remove the old one. As we were moving the couch, his slipper got caught on the silver peg that connects the couches together, causing him to fall and smack his head off of the coffee table. He fell on the floor. I hopped over the sectional and knelt down next to him. It didn’t help that we were drinking. We had a couple crowns and water. He told me that he is okay, his head just hurts. I said, “well yea you smacked it off the coffee table.” I grabbed an ice pack and put it under his head, and he rolled over on to his back. I was worried, but the visual of him falling is kind of funny. We laugh when we get hurt. I did call his mom and ask her if she could go to the hospital, she said no just give him some Motrin. How many drinks have you guys had? I said we had two each. She said, “He should be okay.” When I got off the phone with her, I called his brother, Tommy who is a nurse. He said, don’t give him Motrin since he has been drinking. He doesn’t need to go to the hospital, unless there is a lump, or if he is bleeding. Neither was happening, so I guess we are good.
However, I was scared for him to sleep, because you shouldn’t sleep when you smack your head, but I had a feeling he was going to be okay. The washer was coming early tomorrow, so we were off to bed.

Nose Piercing

This morning, we took it easy and relaxed. We took our time getting ready.  We went to the chiropractor for a 9am appointment. He said he wants to see me next weekend. My neck is really out of place, great.
Around 11:30am, I was down in the basement doing laundry, and Andrew was out taking the trash. My parents came over. My mom called out, “Dan it is us. We are here.” I said, “I am in the basement.” She said, “the door was open, so we just came in.”  I went upstairs and said, “that’s okay, I was doing laundry.” she said, “No problem. We saw Drew outside.” He came inside at this point and handed me an envelope from Pitt’s Childcare Center. I forgot I talked with them this week. He asked if, he could just put it upstairs. I said, “yes, please.” He went upstairs, with the mail and then came back down.
When it was time to leave, we all went in Drew’s car to Up in Arms, which is a Tattoo shop. As part of my 30th birthday present, I was getting my nose pierced again. I was so excited. I don’t know don’t ask me why, but I love the thrill of a needle. It is an adrenaline rush.
When we arrived at the tattoo shop, I told the woman I was here for a nose piercing. She said, come on back. She told the piercer what I was here for, and he came back into the room. They had me sit on this table, and fill out some forms on his iPad. I told him I had it pierced before and I would like it done in the same hole, as the previous one. Drew came back to the room to watch.
After I was done filling out the forms, he wiped my nose down with an alcohol wipe and marked the spot where he was going to pierce me and had me lay down. Then he put his surgical mask on, and washed his hands, and put some gloves on, and then he took the needle. I closed my eyes, and he said, “alright take a deep breath for me.” I felt the needle go in, and out. He then put the nose stud in my nose. There was a bunch of pressure, no pain, just pressure. It made my eyes water. It was normal. After he put the stud in, he had to tighten it inside my nose. He put his finger inside my nose in order to tighten it. It was sensitive, but it was back! I was so excited.
When we left the tattoo shop, we went to Eat n Park for breakfast/lunch. My parents loved my nose stud. I am so glad to have it back in. I love it. I was wondering what work was going to say, but I didn’t think they were going to say anything really, or even notice, because it is a University, and they are pretty laid back about this stuff.
After lunch, we went back to our house, and my parents got in their car to go let the dogs out and feed them. They were coming back over for the Pitt game later. Andrew and I vacuumed and finished laundry. It was nice to have some alone time. We also, went to the store to pick up the ingredients for Buffalo Chicken Dip. My dad requested it. We also had spinach dip left over from the Sociology welcoming event that we had at work.
When we got back home, I made the dip but waited to put it in the oven until closer to them arriving. They got there during the last half of the 1st quarter. Pitt didn’t look so good. This was a huge game. If they were going to lose, I knew Drew was going to be in a bad mood. Well, Pitt did lose, but it was nice to have my family over for the game.

After my parents left, we got the house back to normal, and then went to Home Depot to order our sliding glass door and skylights. Then we went to Giant Eagle: Market District and did some grocery shopping for the week, and to drop our dry cleaning off. Drew didn’t seem in that good of a mood. I wonder if we were both tired.

Second Day

Today went really well. I had some assignments to complete. Two of the women in my office, told me about them yesterday, so I definitely needed to add them to my to-do list. I just needed to make folders and file paperwork.

This morning, I had a meeting with Brian and Phyllis. Brian was doing my job prior to me getting hired. He had some info for me and a couple things to keep on my radar. I have to confirm somethings tomorrow when I see the department head.

After the meeting, our IT guy came by my price and introduced himself. He asked if I needed anything? I asked him about PeopleSoft and he made sure I had access to do whatever it is that I needed to do with PeopleSoft. Then he programmed my email and created a path to the drive for me, then he was gone.

After he left, I organized my whole office and cleaned out some old files. I rearranged some things and put the student files behind me. I think they are more secure. I have to confirm some things with Nancy tomorrow, but other than that it was a good productive day.
