Christmas Day 2017

Christmas Day 2017

This Christmas day was a bit different this year. Grandma has been recovering in a rehabilitation center. She fell back in November and cracked a bone in her spine. This happened right before she was to get her heart valve replaced. The fall happened after she had her heart cath implanted.   My mother-in-law, believe she fell due to her blood pressure being so low, from the surgery.  Thankfully, she had her first alert on her and was able to get call an ambulance.
Honestly, I believe she will not return to her high rise apartment, because she is a fall risk. God forbid she returns to her apartment, and in the future, she falls again and there is no one there to help her. It is sad, but she may end up in assisted living, or even a nursing home.
All that is going on with Grandma, and my mother-in-law, brings back some not so nice memories from when my Grandma was getting ready to go into a Nursing home, because she fell in the kitchen, and broke her hip. She needed skilled care until she passed away. It is so sad to see Andrew’s family go through this process. I am trying to be there for everyone, but the outcome of Grandma ever returning to her apartment, doesn’t look too good.
On Christmas Day, we were supposed to pick up Aunt Tootsie and bring her to Andrew’s parents with us, but she isn’t feeling well and wanted to stay home. We arrived at Andrew’s parents around 12pm. We sat around the living room and opened gifts. I received a silver diamond bracelet, and a gift card to Starbucks from my in-laws. I love my bracelet and I am so thankful. Andrew received a gift card to Best Buy, and a customized Whiskey Barrel, engraved with his name on it.

My parents arrived at 2pm. Then we sat down and ate dinner. We had ham, potatoes, green bean casserole, and prime rib. It was all so yummy. for dessert, my mother-in-law brought out a cake to honor my dad’s retirement. He retired from work this past Thursday. I was happy she honored it. She didn’t have to, but she didn’t and that makes her so cool.

After dinner, we hung out and cleaned up, then we got in our cars and went to visit grandma at the rehab center. My parents even decided to come and visit her. I was glad about that. Grandma seemed so happy to see us. The first thing she asked Pam, was if she brought her any food? Pam said, Well no I didn’t, because they serve you dinner here. I didn’t even think to do it, mom. She said, she would bring her some tomorrow for lunch. My mother-in-law took pictures of us with Grandma, because who knows this may be this last Christmas. You hate to think of things like that, but we have to be realistic and be prepared.

Halloween Party

Halloween Party

This morning, I woke up and got ready to go to Crafton. I had a nail appointment at Bella’s Nails in Noblestown. I was meeting my mom at my parents’ house then we would drive to the Nail salon together. She was getting her nails done too.

When I arrived into Crafton, I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and got my mom two pumpkin coffees and my dad a chocolate donut. When I got to my parents, my dad was so happy and surprised with his donut. I said hi to my dogs, and then we were on our way to the nail salon.

When we arrived, I sat in Anna’s chair, and my mom sat next to me. Anna was going to do my nails first, then my mom’s. While I was soaking my feet for my pedicure, she was going to finish up my mom. It took a little over 2 hours to be completely done. My mom and I tried the SNS dip powder nails. It is this powder that they dip your nails in, and it supposedly it has nutrients in it, and makes your nails grow. I wasn’t sure about that, but I am excited to see how long it lasts. I love having my nails and toes done. It has been so long since my last pedicure. My nails and toes are a dark purple, almost like a plum. Fall means dark colors!

After our nail appointment, my nail trip costs me $90.00, not including a tip. I know this is a special occasion. My mom and I met my dad at Hanlon’s in the shopping center and we had breakfast. Then it was back to my parents. I wanted to try on the white tights that I had for my costume tonight. I  knew my mom would give me her honest opinion on whether or not they fit properly. Thankfully, when I tried them on they fit. I was ready for tonight. I couldn’t wait.

When I got back to Moon, Drew just got home. He asked how my nail appointment went and if I had fun? I told him it was so relaxing. I showed him my nails and my toes I think he liked them. I threw some laundry in and hung out, until it was time get ready. I was feeling semi nauseous. I was hoping I would be in tip top shape for tonight.

When it was time to get ready, I took my time and did my make up. I did my stitches on my face and on my neck, like Sally has them in the movie. I was being Sally from the Nightmare before Christmas. Drew was being Jack. The two main characters in the movie. Once we we were ready, we left the house and went to Giant Eagle to pick up my cupcake cake. Drew had it made in a particular shape. He wanted to surprise me with it.  I couldn’t wait to see it.  Once we picked up the cake, it was decorated in the shape of a pumpkin. It was orange with black writing. I loved it! We also picked up an energy drink, and gum.

My parents were next to arrive, my dad had the best costume! He was a pirate. My mom was dressed as a witch. I am so glad they  dressed up. My in-laws did not dress up.

Once they arrived, we ordered food. I had a grilled cheese and fries. Andrew had a burger and fries, so did my dad. My mom had a gyro. I think my father-in-law just had wings and spinach dip.
After dinner, Anthony and Dylan showed up. Dylan brought me a card, and inside the card was a $25 Starbucks gift card. My in-laws, got me two cards. One funny one, and one cute one. In side, the funny card was a $15 dollar Starbucks gift card. I felt so blessed. I knew where I was stopping on Monday! The bar sang Happy Birthday to me, and then I blew out my candles.
When it was time to leave, Drew and I were so tired. I was ready for bed. We got home around 10pm.

Anthony and Dylan came by our house for a bit, but they didn’t get a chance to eat, since they showed up so late. I was about to wait for them to eat at the restaurant. I was so tired. Anthony was in a mood too.  When they finally left, Andrew and I got ready and went to bed. I had a feeling I was going to be so lazy tomorrow.

Jazz Happy Hour

Jazz Happy Hour

Today, Drew was home to let the Bath Fitter guy in to the house, and I was so excited for our new shower. Today, was my last day on the assignment at the Music Department. I had mixed feelings. Sad, because I am going to miss everyone. Also, I don’t want to be on the couch long. Happy, because now I don’t have to deal with Geri, and I have an interview tomorrow with CMU!
The day, dragged on and on, but when it was almost time to go. Frank decided he was not going to my happy hour. I was sad, because he and I did grow close, but it appeared he didn’t want to go and simply made up an excuse, as to not go.

When it was time to leave, I had to run back to the office and grab my coat. I turned to look back at the office once more. I remember when Paula first brought me there. She flipped on the lights and it looked like a cave with a nice computer. I never thought I would like it there. I never thought I would want to leave this place. I took a deep breath, smiled, and shut the door. I had a happy hour to get to and a 3-hour long interview tomorrow.
We walked to the Butterjoint on North Craig. Paula, AJ, Phil, Irene, and myself were in attendance. Irene brought Marco. I was gifted with Psycho Racoon, a card, and a $50 Starbucks gift card. I felt so blessed. I had three 7 and 7s. Drew checked up on me, here and there. He was being so sweet reminding me to be careful, but this was my happy hour, and I don’t do this to him. I let him alone. Whatever. It is okay. He was just being nice and caring. He loves me.
After Paula, AJ, and Phil left, it was just Irene and I. I had one more drink, then it was time to go. Irene asked me about married life, and what is like to be a wife. I remember being so naïve about marriage and a wedding as well. I am happy most days. I am ready for something of my own. I miss having my own stuff. CMU would be mine. Here is to hoping! I finally got on the bus, and took the 28x back to Robinson to my car. I was sobering up and ready to drive home. I felt safe and sober.  Once I got to my parent’s I played with my dogs, said Hi to my parents, then went to bed. I was so tired and I had a huge day tomorrow.
