Fun Friday

This morning my previous supervisor stopped by and she dropped off some Halloween decorations for me. She messaged me a while back, and asked me if I wanted some of her decorations. She and her husband love Halloween, but since her children are grown they don’t use them as much as they used to. I was so glad that she thought of me. In the picture above, she dropped off the coffin, skeletons, the witch to the left, the Lizzie Borden head stone, the cauldron and the broom. I am so obsessed!

The three of us carried the coffin to the garage. I wondered if any of my neighbors saw us. Once we got the coffin safely into the garage, we chatted some more. I invited her into our house so she could see our decorations. She loved them and was glad that her decorations were in the hands of a Halloween lover.

When she left, I virtually tutored two baseball players and hung out with my neighbor’s daughter. She is so cute and so funny! We colored a couple pictures and then she had to go to a birthday party.

Balancing Commitments

This week I was extremely busy. I might have taken on much more than I can balance. I academically assist with the baseball players at Pitt. I have been doing it now for a year. I enjoy helping them with academic coaching, tutoring, and some administrative tasks. I helped my supervisor conduct grade check-ins. I told him I would try to meet with as many of the guys that I could. I only needed to meet with them for 20-mins to go over their grades, and enter them into a spreadsheet. I think we are going to do this a couple times a semester. I think the next time would be after midterm grades are submitted. On top of the 20-minute grade check-ins, I was academic coaching them, and tutoring them.
There were some times throughout the week, where I would be behind in getting in touch with them, but they were accommodating and willing to give me 20-mins of their time. I scheduled my last grade check-in in the evening on Thursday. I was planning to submit what I had to my supervisor on Friday.
Also, I admittedly did not really put that much energy into the 2-3-page reflection that I had to write for class next Wednesday. I needed to make sure I could still get my homework done, and help the baseball players as well. I am perhaps maybe being a bit too hard on myself, but I could have done a better job at balancing my commitments this week, but it was almost the weekend and I am determined to make some time for myself this weekend.

Last Internship Class

After CMU today, I went to the cathedral and worked on some things for Assessment class. When we rehearsed our presentation last week it didn’t go so well. It was awkward and that is mainly because I forgot my script. I am getting to that point in the semester where I am just over it. I am ready for break.

Then I went to Drew’s office, he works in the cathedral until it was time to go tutor a baseball player. He wanted me to look over his final paper once more, and I was anxious to hear his professor’s thoughts on the suggestions I had for his paper.

Around 4:30pm, I went back downstairs to the first floor of the cathedral to meet up with the baseball player. The first thing I asked is what did his professor say about our modifications on your paper? He said, she liked them a lot and thought it was a lot better than what I had before.  I was relieved. We talked about his conclusion and I answered any questions he may have had about his conclusion and then we were finished. I wished him luck and then I went back to Drew’s office.

When Drew finished he shut his computer down and we walked to the car, so we could park under Posvar. Drew had class this evening and I had a happy hour to attend.

When I arrived at Hemingway’s I was the first one, so I got some tables reserved in the back and waited for our class to arrive. Slowly but surely everyone piled in. We ended up taking over the back left of the restaurant. Drew came to the happy hour after his class finished up. We stayed for a while and mingled with our table, then we left to go home.

When we got home, it was about 10pm. I was ready for bed. One more class tomorrow and the semester is over!

Back in the Groove

Today was my first day back at CMU since being out sick for two weeks. The Yoga Nidra helped, but I was hoping the pressure in my ears would go away soon.

I had a pretty full day. I met with AB Special events and we talked about the last day of classes event. Then I met with Bhangra in the Burg. I feel terrible for not going to their event on Saturday. If I wasn’t sick, I would have been in attendance. There aren’t any  regularly scheduled advisor meetings for Bhangra in the Burg in the Spring, unless it is just to wrap up their expenses from their event. I am so glad I got to meet theses women and was able to co-advise them. I learned so much from them.

After CMU, I met with football player that I tutor. We worked on his last paper. I helped him with some research and gave him some pointers on his paper.
